Making a C&C Cage in the Philippines

Update (2016): Please note that this blog post was written in 2012. While the general information might still be applicable, the prices may have changed. All info below this line remains unedited.

I made my own cube-and-coroplast cage for my guinea pig, Almond. Making your own C&C cage is more practical than buying a pet cage at a shop because you can shape it any way that you want to.

Corrugated plastic (a.k.a. coroplast)- National Bookstore @ Gateway Cubao – 50.75 pesos per meter

Cable ties – National Bookstore @ Gateway Cubao – 32.75 pesos per pack

Cube grids (a.k.a. Modular Racks) – Ace Hardware @ SM North EDSA – 795 pesos per set of 16 grids

Cutting tools (box cutter, scissors)

Drawing tools (ruler, pencil, ballpoint pen)

Adhesive (masking tape)

1. Put the grids together into the shape and size that you want.

2. Cut halfway through the coroplast so that you can create a box-shaped container that will fit the grids.

3. Use adhesive tape outside of the coroplast, cable ties on the grids as needed, then set up your C&C cage anyway that you want to.

Additional Info: Where to Buy

Cube grids @ Ace Hardware – Aisle 8 to 9, SM Megamall

Stack& Rack: These 9×9 grids are ideal for guinea pig cages unlike 8×8 or rectangular sized grids that provide small space or are difficult to connect. The 4-cubes set costs 795 pesos as mentioned previously in this post; the 6-cubes set costs 995 pesos… I forgot to check the price of the 8-cubes set, sorry >__< A whole bunch of them can be found at Ace Hardware – SM Megamall between Aisles 8 and 9, near the doormats and other housekeeping items. In other branches, Stack&Rack is put in the Storage aisle.

Cable ties: These can be found in most electrical or computer item shops. The price depends on the brand and size of the ties.I was able to purchase them at National Bookstore and Ace Hardware.

Corrugated plastic: It looks like illustration board but it is made of plastic. I found it at National Bookstore – Gateway, Cubao and National Bookstore – Avenida (Rizal Avenue).

Hi! At what Wilcon branch did you buy your stack & rack? And how much is it for 6 cubes? Your reply would be very much appreciated.

      Thank you!

Sorry but I haven’t checked for these recently because I am still using the old set. Any shop that sells home improvement items should have it, something similar to it, because they’re storage cubes and not specifically for pets only.

Check the storage/container section of big department stores. The cube grids is a kind of collapsible shelf, so you should find it there. I got mine from Ace Hardware’s home/container sections.

Good day. I am interested of making a similar one that you have made. I am planning to have rabbits as pets and I thought of making a house for them first before I get them. I was hoping you can help me by suggesting where I can buy the grid cubes. I tried several hardware stores near my place but no luck. I live in Los Banos, Laguna. Thank you..

The cubes are interlockable multi-purpose grids that function as storage racks(for shoes, books, etc) so they may be stocked in book/household item supply shops such as National Bookstore. If you can’t find cubes, you can use rectangular grids such as the ones sold in home supply stores such as Japan Home Center ( ; posted link for reference)

how do you open the cage when you want to feed or carry the guinea? you lift the whole thing or you didn’t connect the walls and the ceiling together? thank you!

There’s a part that is not connected completely, sort of like how cat doors work. They’re secured by metal wires that can easily be undone with human hands, but cannot be chewed through by guinea pigs.

Do you know where I could still buy Stack & Rack? I’ve went to two Ace Hardware branches (SM North & SM Cubao) but no luck. 😦 I’ll try to go to Megamall later today to see if they still have some. Will comment here again once I find out.
